Bender offers a new generation of insulation monitoring devices and fault locators for medical IT systems. The devices feature improved measurement technology and enhance safety for patients and medical staff.
The ISOMETER® isoMED527insulation monitoring device has been specially developed for monitoring medical IT systems. It complies with the IEC 61557-8 product standard and monitors the insulation resistance of the medical IT system, as well as the load current and temperature of the IT system transformer. To enable a comprehensive assessment of the condition of the medical IT system, the isoMED527 also monitors the mains leakage capacitance. Threshold values for alarm messages can be set for all measured parameters. The alarm messages are output via the device’s LEDs and the existing RS-485 interface using the new BSC protocol.
Alongside the ISOMETER® isoMED527, the new ISOSCAN® EDS551insulation fault locator is also available. This device has been developed in accordance with product standard IEC 61557-9 and can monitor four or six channels simultaneously. Like the ISOMETER® isoMED527, the ISOSCAN® EDS551 monitors not only insulation resistance but also mains leakage capacitance, and reports insulation faults within less than 5 seconds. The rapid localisation of insulation faults significantly improves safety in medical environments, as faulty or defective devices are now detected more quickly. As with the ISOMETER® isoMED527, alarm messages are transmitted both via the device’s LEDs and via the existing RS-485 interface using the BSC protocol.
Background
For more than 60 years, Bender has been providing power supply solutions for medical environments. With its products, Bender ensures greater safety in medical settings such as operating theatres, intensive care units and A&E departments. As a power supply failure in these areas could put patients’ lives at risk, IEC 60364-7-710 stipulates that there must be no total loss of power supply in such locations. Consequently, the particularly fail-safe IT system is mandatory in medical areas classified as Group 2.
